Job Title:         Liturgy/Music Coordinator                                                             

FSLA Status:   Non-exempt (hourly)

Hours:            10 hours/week

I.  JOB SUMMARY:

     The Liturgy/Music Coordinator oversees and coordinates the preparation for ail liturgies and the music associated with those liturgies. This person works closely with the Pastor to see to the needs of the parish. This job description outlines essential job responsibilities and does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.

 

II.  ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.    Plan, coordinate, and execute engaging music and liturgy for all routine and special liturgies including weddings and funerals.

2.    Participate in parish committees that minister to the needs of the parishioners including a written report and regular attendance at monthly Parish Council meeting.

3.    Prepare agenda for and facilitate the Liturgy Committee to select music and music resources.

4.    Prepare for and direct/lead vocal and bell choir practices.

5.    Create and execute weekly rehearsal plans.

6.    Recruit, nurture, and coordinate vocalists and musicians; work with cantors to further develop skills.

7.     Maintain and distribute cantor and musician schedules.

8.    Assist in the purchase of all liturgy and music related materials and services adhering to applicable licensing requirements/copyrights.

9.    Work with the Pastor, Bookkeeper, and Finance Council to prepare and manage the budget for liturgical events, supplies, and services.

10.   Work with the Director of Religious Education/OCIA/OCIC Facilitator as needed to support and enhance the faith formation experience.

11.    Create liturgy planning sheets and distribute to members.

12.   Brainstorm and participate in recruiting events.

13.   Collaborate with staff in solving work problems.

14.   Write weekly bulletin music notes.

15.   Write petitions as requested for weekend masses.

16.   Participate in more than one weekend liturgy in the role of cantor, director, or choir member; encouraged to participate in all weekend liturgies especially for the Solemnities and for our patron saint celebration.

17.    Perform other tasks as assigned by the Pastor.

18.    Assist the Pastor with projects as needed-ex. online funeral music planning resource.

19.    Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for this job.

 

 

III.  JOB REQUIREMENTS:

1.      Compliance with BCI background checks and completion of Protecting God's Children prior to beginning employment. Must be a member of a Roman Catholic parish community with an active and deep Roman Catholic faith.

2.     Adherence to Catholic Church Teaching statement.

3.     Ability to self-manage multiple tasks and meet project expectations and deadlines.

4.     Ability to work with others in a collaborative team environment in addition to working and relating well with other staff and parishioners.

5.     Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.

6.     Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

7.      Ability to maintain high ethical standards in all matters.

8.     Willingness to perform other duties as assigned.

9.     High school degree or equivalent and an advanced degree or certification in music and Catholic liturgy.

10.   Minimum of 3 years of parish liturgy/music coordination or similar experience in a parish setting.

11.    Maintain vocal skills and musical instrument skills; assumes ability to read music.

12.    Proven administrative skills including interpersonal relations, conflict resolution, management and supervision, budget preparation and collaborative ministry.

13.    Ability to do light work: Exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force  frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects with or without reasonable accommodations.
