Parish Bookkeeper Job Description

Job Title: Bookkeeper

FLSA Code: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Hours: Approximately 15/week: Flexible schedule                                     

Pay: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

JOB SUMMARY:

In accordance with the established policies and procedures of the Diocese of Columbus, the Bookkeeper ensures that all financial records are accurate, complete, and current. The Bookkeeper collaborates with the Finance Council and Pastor to support sound fiscal oversight by providing relevant data, financial analyses, and informed recommendations. In addition, the Bookkeeper also collaborates in the development, preparation, and ongoing management of the parish budget.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

·      Maintain acceptable accounting practices to ensure accurate and reliable financial data necessary for business operations.

·      Use QuickBooks for accounts receivable and accounts payable, to reconcile all accounts, prepare journal entries, and generate ledger reports.

·      Assign correct financial codes to vendor invoices to appropriate expense accounts.

·      Serve as a point of contact for the collection counters, as needed.

·      Audits deposits for confirmations of contributions received and deposited.

·      Processes all electronic payments and contributions using both QuickBooks and ParishSoft. 

·      Support parish committees with financial recordkeeping for parish events.

·      Prepare and process payroll in Paycor and then in correct accounts using QuickBooks.

·      Issue monthly and/or quarterly financial reports (Balance Sheet, P & L Statements, YTD, Budget Comparison, Prior Year Comparison) to the Finance Council and Pastor. Prepare and file quarterly reports for the diocese, prepare W-2 and 1099 forms.

·      Attend quarterly Finance Council meetings and attend work sessions as needed.

·      Attend monthly Parish Council meetings (as needed).

·      Assist with The Appeal and the promotion of it.

·      Is responsible for developing the yearly budget in collaboration with staff and Finance Council.

·      Provides support and assistance in grant writing.

 

 

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

·      Ability to use Microsoft 365 – Outlook, Word, Excel, Calendar and to use QuickBooks.

·      Prior bookkeeping experience is required.

·      Compliance with BCI background checks and completion of Protecting God’s Children.

·      Adherence to Catholic Church Teaching statement.

·      Ability to self-manage multiple tasks and meet project expectations and deadlines.

·      Ability to work with others in a collaborative team environment in addition to working and relating well with other staff and parishioners.   

·      Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.

·      Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

·      Ability to maintain high ethical standards in all matters.

·      Willingness to perform other duties as assigned.

·      High school degree or equivalent.

·      Ability to do light work: Exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects with or without reasonable accommodations.
